What are Swedish cloths?

In a nutshell, they are - soft & spongy, aesthetically pleasing, super thirsty cloths that does its job like a boss, while keeping Mother Earth happy. Pretty awesome if you ask us! 😎

Curt Lindquist, a Swedish engineer, developed the first Swedish cloth material in 1949. This Swedish invention has been in use for some time, and it is becoming popular in the rest of the world.

What’s the difference between The Original 1949 Collection and The Diamond Back Collection?

happi.kloth Swedish cloths are available in two varieties; both are made of the same material and have the same functionality and cleaning power, so what's the difference? It's not much, but here it is:

Where it is made

The Original 1949 is sourced from the original manufacturers in Norrköping, Sweden. The same place since its inception in 1949 by Swedish engineer Curt Lindquist.

In the 1950s, a German manufacturer obtained a license from the original creators to create Swedish cloths as well. This is where the diamond back is sourced from.

Cloth Signature Look

The Original 1949 was designed with a wavy texture on one side and a smooth texture on the other.

For the Diamond Back, the same wavy texture on one side, but with a 3D diamond cut out on the back of the cloth. Due to the cut out, the thickness of the cloths may appear to be slightly less, when compared to the smooth back (Original 1949).

The Printing

The Original 1949 is hand printed using the silk screen process with non-toxic water-based ink. This approach has limits in terms of color and design complexity, but it assures that the print remains on the fabric with little or no fading. It can also tolerate more abrasive stain removers.

Our current Diamond Back collection is digitally printed with non-toxic, water-based ink. Digital printing allows for the use of an endless number of colors and a high level of pattern complexity on the textiles, but it will fade over time, with use.
